Paula Lawrence-
Great Deals...Did You Know???

kids can have a cookie for free at any supermarket with a bakery simply by asking. Don't forget your pleases and thank you's!

local libraries and bookstores offer free story times for toddlers and preschoolers. Libraries have incentive programs for all ages that reward reading and pre-reading activities with books for your kids to keep. Sac Public library has one going on right now for infant-age 5! They also have Leap Pad books available for borrow and I have see many a Leap Pad for sale at thrift stores for $3. That's how I got mine and it works great!Borders book store has a rewards program you can sign up for in the store and you receive weekly emails with great coupons for books and CDs of your choice. I haven't paid full price for anything in quite a while...usually 30% off!

Ulta has a rewards program that you can sign up for in the store that gives you points for beauty products you purchase. I get most of my items there now and when I save up 500 points (which seems to be about every few months)I get $4 off my purchase (or a free eyebrow wax if I want it)...plus I can use their coupon for $3.50 off at the same time...what a steal!

Crossroads Trading Company on Arden Way between Fulton and Morse has great used clothing that is trendy and in great condition...why buy new clothes when I can always find something great at Crossroads! I usually need a couple of hours to shop without kids so I can sort, try on and then choose which item I want...I usually find more than I need!Great music and movement class for toddlers and preschoolers!

Lisa Phenix sings, plays guitar and offers her little drums, maracas, and bells to little ones during her weekly, 45-minute class. Cost is $7 per family and is well worth it! There are no sign-ups, just show up when you want to at Our Lady of Assumption (on Walnut Ave, south of El Camino Ave.) She uses the small building to the left of the office (I think it's St. Patrick's Hall??) Wednesdays 10-10:45. I think she does a class on Thursdays as well.

Don't forget about visiting the local park or the Bike Trail. I took my kids on a walk along the horse trail and they felt like we were walking through the jungle...what an adventure.A great botanical garden exists on Fair Oaks Blvd between Sunrise and the Manzanita split. Right now there is not a lot going on but in a couple short months it will be alive with color and beauty. Last year I went during spring break and found many different colors of tulips and beautiful flowering trees in full bloom. There are bridges for kids to walk over and lots of area to explore while also being fenced-in for safety! This was a great photo opportunity so if you go, remember your camera! Charles C. Jensen Botanical Garden, 8520 Fair Oaks Blvd. Free (but no bathroom so be prepared).

Our money is not unlimited and we need to be good stewards of what we have while still providing a variety of experiences for our little ones. Do you have any other free or cheap things to do?
